Promoting hunting hymenoptera to optimize the natural regulation of aphids

Description

Hunting hymenoptera include several families, the female of which hunts prey for her offspring, which she stores in a nest she builds in advance. We began work in 2019 to promote aphid hunters (Pemphredonidae). These hymenoptera dig galleries in pithy stems to store hunted aphids. We defined the optimal characteristics of the stems to be used as well as their favorable arrangement and environment. We also assessed the interest of winter conservation of the stems to increase populations the following year. Production efficiency tests were also conducted. This presentation summarizes the results we obtained.
